Tagua Nut Turtle Figurine
These exquisite collectibles have been hand carved in Ecuador from vegetable nuts which fall from the Tagua Palm Tree Phytelephas Equatorialis (also called the Ivory Nut Palm).
Tagua Nuts, with their texture, hardness, and natural colour are a popular and sustainable carving medium in the rainforests of Ecuador. Their popularity is increasing worldwide in the fight against the Ivory trade and Tagua is now used worldwide in jewellery: It is particularly popular in France.
Tagua can be coloured or painted for use in figurines and jewellery. However, we love the organic, natural colours of this renewable rainforest seed, as shown in these figurines. The carvings have a little of the brown Tagua nut left on show, as part of the design, to distinguish them from Ivory. The figurines gently darken slightly over time to give a gentle vintage finish in much the same way as Ivory does.
This little Turtle comes in its own handmade wicker Gift Basket as shown. Dimensions of the figurine are approximately 70mm long x 50mm high.
Every individual Tagua Nut carving is hand-crafted and unique so no two pieces will be identical. The Turtle and wicker basket that you receive may not be identical to those pictured but will be very similar. The basket colour may differ.
We have a Limited Collection of these unique carvings so once they are gone, they are gone.
